The Southern Nexus Solar Project is set to become Sri Lanka’s largest utility-scale solar development, delivering 150 MW of clean, renewable power from Hambantota to the national grid. With the capacity to generate over 260 GWh of electricity annually, the project will supply energy for more than 200,000 homes, while avoiding an estimated 150,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions each year. Designed to boost energy security and reduce dependence on fuel imports, Southern Nexus will also create hundreds of local jobs during construction and long-term operations. This flagship project marks a major step in Sri Lanka’s journey towards 70% renewable energy by 2030, setting a new benchmark for large-scale solar in the region.
